Thomas Jefferson University has been the beneficiary of two significant gifts from Sidney Kimmel. The Kimmel Cancer Center is nationally recognized for state-of-the-art technology and treatment. Its research programs seek to improve upon the survival and quality of life of cancer patients by translating basic research discoveries into new strategies to prevent, diagnose, monitor and cure human cancer. The Sidney Kimmel Laboratory for Preventive Cardiology will help advance education and research relating to the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Through the new laboratory, this Philadelphia medical center will continue to lead the way in preventing heart disease by identifying and managing lipid disorders and other risk factors that accelerate cardiovascular disease.

Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center in San Diego seeks new cures for cancer by using laboratory research to understand how cancer cells differ from normal cells in the body. SKCC's mission is to use that information to develop better means of cancer diagnosis and prevention as well as to find more effective and less toxic forms of cancer treatment by targeting the cancer cell and its blood supply through molecular and immunological targeting.

The Sidney Kimmel Center for Prostate and Urologic Cancers is a service of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, one of the world’s leading institutions devoted to cancer prevention, patient care, research and education. The Center offers comprehensive, multi-disciplinary care of genitourinary cancers under one roof. This approach fosters valuable research collaborations that advance the standard of care for cancers of the prostate, testes, kidney and bladder.

 

The Foundation’s gift funded the construction of the new Prostate and Urologic Cancers Center building, designed to maximize patient comfort and to provide access to researchers and clinicians. This support has also gone to the recruitment of new faculty, new research initiatives and a therapeutic treatment center.
